Sasha stepping in here. Lake Placid has always been one of my family's favorite places. Over the winter 2024 holidays, I decided to create a piece highlighting the town and all our memories in it. It's not paid for by Visit Lake Placid—but never say never!
My goal with Second Home was to bring you around Lake Placid through some of the town's most iconic locations: Whiteface Mountain (host of the 1980 Winter Olympic skiing events), Mirror Lake (IRONMAN Lake Placid start line), and the historic Main Street, site of both the 1932 and 1980 Winter Games. It's only through this tour that you begin to uncover a larger question at hand: Should Lake Placid become the family's official second home?
